From Dos Hermanas to the World Stage
Daniel and Desirée come from Dos Hermanas and are based in Seville. Their full names are Daniel Sánchez Berlanga and Desirée Guidonet Esteve. Before dance became his profession, Daniel served in the military. When their local paper, La Semana, interviewed them in 2013, Desirée had been dancing for ten years and Daniel for five.
Their very first competition was BachataStars España in 2010, part of the BachataStars contest founded by Korke Escalona, and they won it. By 2013 their video from that event had passed one million views on YouTube. Their 2011 European result came at BachataStars Europa, and both world titles were won at the World Bachata Masters in Madrid.
How Their Style Took Shape
In 2013 the couple described their specialty as Dominican bachata, both urban and sensual, and said they could also hold their own in salsa and cha-cha-chá. Today festival listings describe them as leaders in sensual bachata fusion, and they call themselves fusion artists. By 2013 they had already visited more than 200 cities in and outside Spain, and their stated goal was to keep learning while teaching “our particular style” around the world.
